The award-winning Blue Heron Restaurant is owned and operated by Chef Deborah Snow and Manager Barbara White. First opened in 1997 in Montague Center, the Blue Heron became known as one of the best in the Valley. The Blue Heron received several awards. After a successful six year run, the restaurant closed and Barbara and Deborah went in search of a new location. As fate would have it, the vacant historic Old Town Hall in Sunderland was eventually sold to Barbara and Deborah in July 2004.
Jeremy Toal and Scott Baum of Turtle Island Designs, Laurie Frazier of Cobalt Design, and Steve Greenwald of Renaissance Builders (all Franklin County businesses) became the “dream team” and redesigned the new Blue Heron with the theme of “spicy all-world cuisine.” Using bold colors, texture, and lighting, the Old Town Hall, a stately, classic New England building was transformed into a beautiful two floor restaurant with a cozy fire-placed Lounge and Bar, a Bistro area with windowed view of the bustling kitchen, a breathtaking formal Great Room, and a quaint Private Dining room.
Customers, old and new, have been more than impressed with the New Blue. Opening the restaurant in November and looking forward to winter months was daunting, but old customers couldn’t wait to come back and new customers have been flocking in. Reviews have been excellent. The Blue Heron has landed once again, perched on the tree of success.
“Thanks to each of you who has supported and continue to support our efforts to bring quality in food, service, and place to the Valley.”
